The Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation proposed to allow convicts to forced labor and serving sentences in colonies-settlements to live with relatives in their own or rented apartments. The draft law is posted on the portal of legal regulations and is now undergoing public discussion.

Corresponding changes are proposed to be made to part 6 of Article 60.4 of the Criminal Executive Code of the Russian Federation (the procedure for serving forced labor) and subparagraph b of part 1 of Article 129 of the Criminal Code (conditions for serving imprisonment in colonies-settlements). If adopted, the law will enter into force six months after the date of publication. Earlier, State Duma deputy from the New People party Georgy Arapov proposed allowing prisoners with exemplary behavior to have pets.
