About it in an interview with the program "News of the week" said the Chairman of the Association of producers and consumers of rare and rare earth metals, General Director of Solikamsk magnesium plant Ruslan Dimukhamedov.
He noted that each metal can be used in three to four areas. “If we are talking about the most popular materials, it is neodymium with praseodymium, from which magnets will be produced. Magnets for robotics, magnets for electric transport, magnets for wind generators, Dimukhamedov said. Another popular rare earth material – lanthanum – is used for the production of oil cracking catalysts, which allow you to separate heavy matter into light fractions. “If we are talking about cerium, then these are additives in steel, these are catalysts for car exhaust, that is, those same Euro 5 are impossible without cerium additives, and this is high-precision optics,” Ruslan Dimukhamedov explained. Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the industry of rare and rare earth metals “the most important resource base of the modern economy” and stated the need to establish a full cycle of extraction and processing of such resources in Russia.
