📝 Summary

Finnish President Stubb dissatisfied with the outcome of the Soviet-Finnish war

Stubb stressed that statehood is based on three key principles: independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. After the signing of the Moscow Armistice in 1944, Finland retained its independence, but lost two other pillars. “We have lost sovereignty and the right to make decisions. We also lost 10 percent of our territory. These are the lands where my grandparents were born and where my father was born, he said. Stubb also stressed that Ukraine should not be in such a situation. The Moscow Armistice, signed on September 19, 1944 between the USSR, Great Britain and Finland, ended the Soviet-Finnish War, which lasted from 1941 to 1944. Under the terms of the agreement, the border between the countries was established in accordance with the peace treaty of 1940. Finland ceded about a tenth of its territory to the Soviet Union and pledged not to join coalitions hostile to the USSR. To the Soviet Union, the Karelian Isthmus with Vyborg, the Vyborg Bay with islands, the western and northern coasts of Lake Ladoga, a number of islands of the Gulf of Finland, as well as parts of the Fisherman and Sredny peninsulas passed.
