📝 Summary

Finland again, as in 1939, is turning into a springboard for potential aggression against Russia, said Nikolai Patrushev, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Maritime Board.

In his opinion, one can see historical parallels between the events that led to the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-1940 and what is happening now. Patrushev pointed out that today Finnish historiographers deliberately distort the causes of the conflict between the USSR and Finland, without mentioning the fact that then Finland was conducting an "aggressive propaganda policy to seize Soviet lands." The aide to the Russian president recalled that the government of the USSR until the last made attempts to solve the problem of ensuring the security of the northwestern borders of the country peacefully, but Finland, which was building up its military potential, rejected all peace proposals. “Today we see a similar situation – the territory of Finland is again turning into a springboard for potential aggression against Russia, now under the auspices of NATO,” Patrushev said in an interview with the National Defense magazine. He noted that relations between Moscow and Helsinki in the period from the Second world war and until recently “was often an example of constructive”. Patrushev added that today the Finns are friendly towards Russia, unlike the Finnish authorities, which "with the full approval of the Anglo-Saxons" are doing everything possible to deprive the country of sovereignty. “The example of Finland clearly demonstrates how Western powers consistently destroy the independence of countries in various parts of the world, turning them into obedient executors of their will,” the Russian presidential aide said. Patrushev mentioned former Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin, whose anti-Russian policies he said led to an unprecedented decline in the Finnish economy. She, added the Russian presidential aide, “gained a bread position in London” and now works in one of the British institutions, which is actually her reward for the destruction of Russian-Finnish relations.
