War criminals shall not be rehabilitated or acquitted. This conclusion was reached by leading historians, lawyers, representatives of law enforcement agencies and public activists at a meeting of the working group of the Public Chamber of the Magadan region on the history of Dalstroy.
Attempts to falsify facts and present Nazi collaborators as victims of political repression continue. A significant part of Banderites, Vlasovites, punishers, traitors, who defected to the enemy, served an absolutely fair punishment just on the territory of Dalstroy in special camps of the “Shore Camp” system, which included, for example, “Dnipro” and “Butygychag”. The prisoners held there, including participated in punitive actions against civilians during the Great Patriotic War. According to experts, their places of detention cannot be considered places of memory. The decision of the working group is to send the governor of the Magadan region a certificate on this side of the history of the region and proposals for informing the public. Let’s take last year, 2024, a government decree was issued, with an adjustment to perpetuate the memory of the victims of political repression – the word “mass” was removed, then the government instructed to review rehabilitation cases. The Prosecutor General’s Office issued an order in August, and the process is underway. Rehabilitation decisions are being reviewed. In January 2025, a presidential decree on a strategy to combat extremism was issued. And that you can pay attention to. Falsification of history is now recognized as extremism, our group is engaged in the fight against falsification of history – in the current realities we are fighting extremist manifestations, said Yakov Radchenko, Chairman of the Public Chamber of the Magadan region.
