📝 Summary

In 2024, four hundred and twenty foreigners became full-fledged citizens of our country in the region, 148 of whom are children. This was reported today at a meeting of the regional public chamber. According to the report of the chairman Yakov Radchenko, it became known that in 2024 alone, more than sixteen thousand foreign citizens visited Kolyma. This is only 12 percent of the total number of residents permanently living in the region.

Some of them have received patents, some came to Kolyma temporarily, and some later obtained Russian citizenship. This information was provided to public figures by government authorities, law enforcement, and supervisory agencies. According to the data provided, citizens from more than forty countries visit the Magadan region annually. However, Kolyma attracts the most migrants from Uzbekistan. Last year, over seven thousand migrants received work patents. In 2024, according to the prosecutor's office, foreigners committed 75 crimes, which is 13 percent more than in 2023. The main offenses were document forgery: driver's licenses, medical records, and migration cards. No extremist crimes were detected. "For example, I don't see any staggering numbers in terms of the turnover of foreigners, their employment, or a huge share in the population. What I have noticed is a significant number of people obtaining Russian citizenship. In other words, there are quite large numbers of naturalizations. Even in terms of the population, it's around 0.3 percent of naturalized citizens per year, if we compare it to our own demographic figures, birth rate minus mortality, it's actually quite significant," noted Yakov Radchenko, Chairman of the Public Chamber of the Magadan Region.
