According to the Minister of Digital Development of Dagestan Yuri Gamzatov, the decision to block in two regions of the North Caucasus Federal District was taken at the federal level. “It (Telegram) is often used by enemies, an example of this is the riots at the airport of Makhachkala,” said Gamzatov, whose words are quoted by TASS. He admitted that in the future the messenger can be unlocked. Earlier, Gamzatov, speaking about the failures of the messenger since last year in the North Caucasus, recommended using analogues of Telegram, in particular, Vkontakte. The riots at Makhachkala Uytash airport occurred on October 29, 2023. Crowds of people protesting against accepting passengers from Israel broke into the building amid the aggravation of the situation in the Middle East. The assembled blocked the work of employees of the air harbor and broke into the runway. Arriving at the scene, law enforcement officers tried to calm the participants of the riots, but they resisted. In the clashes, 23 police officers were injured and the damage to the airport amounted to more than 24 million rubles.
