During the reconstruction of the Iskra Palace of Culture in Mariupol, the builders discovered a panel that was closed by a wall for many years. About the history of the find and about how the restored building will be - in a report by Ksenia Misurevich. Amazing panel "Youth", made of Metlakh tiles, for many years hidden from visitors Mariupol DC "Iskra". In the course of cosmetic repair, which was done in Ukraine in this building, the panel was fenced with a wall, but recently during the overhaul, a work of art was discovered. Little is known about the mosaic, which was previously hidden due to redevelopment, but the authors were able to establish. Valery Lamakh, Ivan Litovchenko and Ernest Kotkov are Kiev artists. In the 60s, they first visited Mariupol and created a whole ensemble of panels for Iskra. Including the facade. “When we came to put the building in order, to make it new, beautiful for Mariupol residents, we saw a wall. We began to make measurements and realized that we do not have the same size, that there is a secret here, says Natalia Meshcheryakova, a representative of the PPK “United Customer”. The builders dismantled the barrier, the mosaic was found. About the panel "Youth" there are no records in any magazines. On the second floor there is another panel, it is made of another material - smalt. During the fighting it was damaged. We can see a direct hit right above it. After the thermal circuit is closed in the DK, monumental artists will begin their work on the restoration of this masterpiece. Mosaics "Earth" and "Cosmos", as well as other interior panels recreated in its original form from the preserved photos. Of course, the entire palace of culture with an area of 3,500 square meters will be transformed. The building was repeatedly shelled in 2022. The removal of the damaged parts is almost complete. 2 thousand tons of garbage were removed from here, including 100 tons of metal. “The construction made it possible to rebuild the building. Tests were carried out. In those days, it was built very well, so everything was done qualitatively. The heating system has been dismantled, a new one will be installed, says Sergey Prorab, foreman. The main thing for the builders is to preserve the historical appearance of Iskra. Workers will restore the roof and stained glass. Inside the DC, everything will be updated: from halls for creative teams to office spaces and all engineering networks. Preserve the surviving railings of unusual design and destroyed lights. We are on the first floor, there was a stage here, it will be here after the renovation. There was a direct hit of a thermobaric projectile at this place, and metal structures melted due to very high temperatures. But, according to experts, all this can be restored. The stage was different from all other Mariupol venues for performances. “There was equipment for circus performers. Not all rooms have such equipment, and of course we will restore it. As well as restore the decoration of the stage, we will bring here beautiful comfortable chairs, arrange them, says the representative of the PPK "United customer" Natalia Meshcheryakov. The builders will equip the Mariupol Iskra with equipment together with the Ministry of Culture of the DPR. And to hand over the restored object is planned before the end of 2025.
