In Nalchik experienced hunting is waiting for an addition. For the fourth year, the population of chamois is being replenished here. Animals are listed in the Red Book of Russia and Kabardino-Balkaria. The area of this enclosure is almost two hundred square meters. In such conditions, chamois have a place to walk. Animals are brought from the forests of Kabardino-Balkaria and North Ossetia. Catching is carried out carefully: first put to sleep to minimize stress when changing the “place of residence”. After quarantine: mountain goats are examined by veterinarians, if necessary, they are vaccinated, and only after they are released into the nursery. The chamois is under constant control. First of all, it is a balanced diet. Since the composition of herbs in the nursery is different from what is in the wild, goats are fed: they give oats, corn, barley, mineral supplements. Despite care, these animals are not amenable to domestication. In order not to scare them, I had to shoot with a hidden camera. Only one male occasionally allows himself to approach the nursery worker for a delicacy. But today I was afraid of strangers. In a planned manner, several times a year mountain goats are examined by veterinarians. Basically, experts from Moscow and Krasnodar are invited. The aviaries themselves are built in such a way that the territory repeats the natural habitat of chamois as much as possible. For shy chamois are monitored using CCTV cameras. They were installed so that the entire territory of the reproductive center could be viewed. The equipment control center is located in the building next to the nursery so that employees can always react in time. Animals can injure each other during mating. As a rule, it lasts several months and falls on late autumn - the beginning of winter. Competition between males is fierce, so specialists immediately transfer them to different enclosures. Now the offspring are waiting for nine mountain goats. The nursery in the Nalchik experimental hunting farm was opened four years ago. Reproduction of the population began with several mountain goats. Now there are 14 animals living here. Bezoar goats are considered the ancestors of the domestic. There's 11 in the kennel now. Conditions of detention are no different from those required by their neighbors. But if the chamois will be released into the wild in Kabardino-Balkaria, the forests of Dagestan and Chechnya are waiting for mountain goats. Additions in the herd are expected this summer. But only after the number of both types of cloven-hoofed animals exceeds 50 heads, naturalists emphasize. To quickly increase the population of chamois, this year they intend to catch five more animals. According to the latest data, now only about 200 individuals live on the territory of the republic.
