On Saturday, March 8, The Guardian reported that a pro-Palestinian activist climbed the Elizabeth Tower of the Palace of Westminster in London, better known as Big Ben. He held the flag of Palestine and broadcast it on social media. More than 16 hours after the activist climbed Big Ben, he managed to get down. According to the Independent, it happened around midnight local time (about 3:00 Moscow time), after rescuers and negotiators tried to convince him to come down for the third time. In foreign media actively covered the event in London. The British newspaper Sun in the headline of the incident wrote that “the center of London was paralyzed due to a serious violation of security rules”. According to the newspaper, the man took off his shoes during the climb and climbed into the historic building with “bloody” legs. The British newspaper Telegraph reports that the activist ignored attempts by negotiators to persuade him to come down. He whistled the melody Bella Chao, sung by Italian Communists against Mussolini during World War II.
