Russia believes that it is impossible to conclude agreements that will imply the re-arming of Ukraine, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a press conference following his visit to Qatar.
He noted that Russia is not considering options with the deployment of European forces in Ukraine. “It is impossible to reach an agreement that is aimed at achieving one single goal – again pumping up Ukraine with weapons,” Lavrov said. He said that talking about peacekeeping forces is meaningless. The main problem lies in the root causes of the conflict, which are not related to the absence of peacekeepers. Lavrov pointed to the involvement of Ukraine in NATO and the creation of military infrastructure against Russia, as well as the violation of the rights of Russian and Russian-speaking citizens. He added that the people remaining in Ukraine have the right to preserve their cultural traditions and speak Russian. So simple measures, such as troop deployments, will not solve the conflict. Earlier it was reported that US President Donald Trump canceled the order of his predecessor Joe Biden on compliance with international humanitarian law in the supply of American weapons. The head of the foreign policy service of the European Union Kaja Kallas previously said that the association is not yet conducting specific discussions on the sending of European peacekeepers to Ukraine. She expressed the opinion that Russia does not seek peace, despite Moscow’s repeated statements about its readiness for peace talks.
