Kabarga is a small cloven-hoofed animal that leads a secretive lifestyle. Since 1995, it has been a symbol of the Sokhondinsky Reserve, as it played an important role in the preservation of this species in the territory of the Kirinsky District. In the 1990s, the number of barges declined sharply. In connection with the current situation, it was decided to limit fishing and strengthen measures to protect the species. Studies have also been conducted on the breeding of cabarga in captivity. At the moment, annual winter routing records are held in the Sokhondinsky Reserve, according to the results of which the number of barges in the specially protected area will be estimated.
