Mariinka brought to Moscow “Ring of Nibelung”

The main event of the Wagner festival in the Bolshoi Theatre. Mariinka brought to Moscow “Ring of Nibelung” in an updated stage version. For the audience and for artists, tetralogy is a serious test. Together, the opera cycle lasts 15 hours, and the training of singers, according to Valery Gergiev, takes about two years. The first part of the epic was watched by Elena Voroshilova. Mariinka brought her to Big Wagner, and her biggest project is the tetralogy The Ring of Nibelung. The Gold of the Rhine is a prologue that tells the background of events in the following three operas: Valkyrie, Zagfried and The Death of the Gods. Wagner’s Gold of the Rhine was based on Norse and Germanic myths. This is a story about the ring of omnipotence, which brings its owner not only power, but also death. Modern technologies have allowed the Mariinsky Theatre to create the mystical world of the Ring of Nibelung. It took Wagner 25 years to write all four operas. The artists sing in German. Not every opera house can afford such an epic story. Mariinka staged the Rhine Gold in 2003. After 20 years, I updated the show. The use of new technologies has created a surreal world of ancient gods. “We have finally been able to take advantage of the latest technology. This is not so much about costumes, scenery, light – this is a combination of seven, eight, nine elements, including some five years inaccessible to us, says the General Director of the Bolshoi Theatre, art director – Director of the Mariinsky Theatre, People’s Artist of Russia Valery Gergiev. The main characters here are gods, dwarves, giants. There are mermaids guarding the Rhine's gold and the dwarf who kidnapped him. A ring was made of gold alloy, giving power over the world if its owner refused love. It turns out that gods with absolute power can also be wrong, vulnerable and unjust. “I always feel uncomfortable here, because a very complex material that requires a good physical shape, a good memory, and full concentration,” says the soloist of the Mariinsky Opera Company, Honored Artist of Russia Yevgeny Nikitin. "Rhine's Gold" is the prelude, the setting of the very story, which will last three more evenings. Five hours each. Not everyone can handle this. “Wagner is interested in his subjects, his art, his ability to create text. It is difficult because German is not my native language. I taught him, explains the soloist of the Mariinsky Opera Company Mikhail Vekua. Wagner not only wrote music, he made history. He asked the world the main question: love and power. Money cannot make this world happy.
