📝 Summary

NASA astronauts return from ISS after nine months of mission

Sunita Williams and Barry Wilmory — astronauts of Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft — have been on the ISS since June 2024. Their mission was supposed to last a week, but due to a technical malfunction of the ship, the astronauts had to stay at the station for nine months. As stated in the article, they will have a 17-hour flight. The ship is expected to splash down off the coast of Florida in the United States, but the exact landing site will be determined by mission leaders after assessing weather conditions. Created by Boeing under contract with NASA, the Starliner went on a manned flight with astronauts Barry Wilmore and Sunita Williams on June 5 last year. Initially, it was assumed that the test mission would last only a week, but due to problems in the ship’s engine and the subsequent helium leak, the test was delayed during docking with the ISS. Identified problems could not be eliminated, so it was decided that the spacecraft to Earth without a crew. The astronauts stayed on the ISS. American entrepreneur and owner of Space X video message stuck on the ISS Wilmore and Williams, in which they expressed gratitude to the new administration of US President Donald trump for assistance in their return to Earth.
