U.S. Defense Minister Pete Hegset at a closed meeting with Vladimir Zelensky said that U.S. President Donald Trump assesses the possibility of reducing military contingents in Europe. This prospect was perceived by Ukraine as a threat to its own security in the long term. At the same time, there is no official confirmation of such statements by Hegset: the press service of the Pentagon called the information “100% false”. In early February, it was reported that European countries asked the United States for air support in case of sending a military peacekeeping mission to Ukraine. In particular, EU countries have requested American assistance in the form of air defense systems and intelligence technologies. In turn, the head of the Pentagon Pete Hegset said that the United States does not plan to send its troops to Ukraine. He also added that Donald Trump hopes to reach peace agreements on the Ukrainian conflict in the near future.
