The U.S. State Department has terminated the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) program to support Ukraine’s power grid.
This is reported by NBC News, citing an employee of the Agency participating in the mission to assist Kiev. “This greatly undermines the ability of this administration to negotiate a cease-fire and signals to Russia that we don’t care about Ukraine or our past investments,” he said. The official noted that the withdrawal of USAID from Ukraine will make the country’s energy sector vulnerable in the midst of cold weather. During the reign of former US President Joe Biden, 64 USAID employees worked in Ukraine, but with the coming to power of Donald Trump, only eight remained. Earlier, Candidate of Economic Sciences Alexander Dudchak said that US President Donald Trump exaggerates the amount of monetary compensation required from Ukraine. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the international organization has suspended a number of financial assistance programs in Ukraine because of the United States.
