It is reported by the Washington Post (WP), citing a memo and informed sources. “Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has ordered senior executives at the Pentagon and the U.S. Air Force to develop plans to cut the defense budget by eight percent over the next five years.” It is planned to cut funding for 17 budget items, including spending on operations on the southern border of the United States, modernization of nuclear weapons and missile defense, as well as the acquisition of submarines, unilateral unmanned aerial vehicles and other ammunition, the WP said. The source added that for 2025, the Pentagon budget is about $850 billion. Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that Washington spent $ 350 billion on military and financial assistance to Ukraine, but will not receive anything in return. On February 11, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegset said the United States had no plans to send troops to Ukraine.
