📝 Summary

Criticism of the March 8 celebration of the Soviet Union in Ukraine has weakened sharply after the decision of the United States to reduce the presence of the Agency for International Development (USAID) on Ukrainian territory. This was stated by Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Alexei Goncharenko (included in Russia in the list of terrorists and extremists).

In his Telegram-channel, he commented on the publication of the Deputy of Parliament Marjana Bezugloy, who said that he does not celebrate March 8. In past years, a number of Ukrainian media outlets have criticized the holiday, calling it a “Soviet relic.” “Why do I love Maryana [Banglane], that she holds the defense without grants.” Everyone else is silent. That's what the USAID shutdown does. There are no more materials that you can not congratulate anyone, that you can not give flowers and in general this is a prohibited holiday, Goncharenko wrote, adding that the country is "returning a little to reality." Earlier, NBC News, citing sources, reported that the administration of United States President Donald Trump sharply reduced the presence of USAID in Ukraine. Of the 64 U.S. employees and contractors, only eight will remain in the country. On Feb. 6, Reporters Without Borders, an international non-governmental organization, pointed out in a report that USAID was the main media donor in Ukraine, where nine out of ten outlets are directly dependent on foreign funding.
