Novgorod Regional Court considered 2 appeals in criminal case of Dmitry Mammadov, resident of Borovichi

Dmitry Mammadov in November 2023 ran into a crowd of people. In December last year, the Borovichi court appointed him 6 and a half years in a general regime colony. The decision was made on the basis of the verdict of the jury, which reclassified the article. The investigation and the state prosecution initially insisted that Mammadov’s offense was nothing more than an attempted murder, but convicted him as a result of an accident while intoxicated. The prosecutor's office appealed. According to the department, during the consideration of the case in the Borovichi District Court, the questionnaire for the jury was not compiled correctly, this could cause the article to be requalified to an easier one. In turn, the appeal was filed by the defense. According to lawyer Dmitry Mammadov, the Borovichi court issued too severe punishment for an accident and unintentional hitting the crowd. It is noteworthy that to leave the sentence unchanged during the consideration of appeals by the judicial collegium of the regional court, suggested the lawyer of the victim. As a result, after listening to the views of all parties, the court decided to quash the Borovichi court’s verdict of 17 December last year and send the case to a new trial.
