He added that he believes this will help resolve the conflict. “Here we see, indeed, Washington’s attempts to really understand what was the root cause of this conflict, and we hope that this analysis will help efforts in the context of resolving the conflict,” he said. Peskov noted that it is difficult to qualitatively resolve the conflict without having a proper understanding of its causes. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov earlier also drew attention to the fact that a ceasefire in Ukraine alone is unable to resolve the conflict, because it will not resolve the original causes of the conflict. They consist in the policy of Washington and a number of European capitals in the Eastern European direction, in particular in the aggressive expansion of NATO to the borders with Russia.
