📝 Summary

Russia is in the top five – perhaps even in the top three – of the world’s largest book publishers. This was announced in an interview with the TV channel “Russia 24” the President of the publishing group “Exmo-AST” Oleg Novikov.

We are talking about the volume of printed books. “We are confidently among the five largest publishing countries in terms of circulation. I think we are somewhere in the top three, Novikov said. In terms of the number of books per capita, we are slightly behind, we have an average of about 3.5 copies per person. In Europe, especially in Northern Europe – there are 5-7 copies per person – we have a lot to work on. The sales of classics are growing – especially the growth of demand for it among young people is noticeable. And in general, we saw that the audience of 18-25 years became the leader in book consumption. They buy mainly classics, modern novels, what is called the genre of young adult. Comics, manga, [books] by Russian authors, as well as authors from friendly countries, said the head of Exmo-AST. Oleg Novikov also said that 2024 was a record year for the Russian book industry.
