Russian President Vladimir Putin received in the Kremlin Chief Rabbi of Russia Berel Lazar and the head of the Federation of Jewish Communities Alexander Boroda. The meeting discussed the release of Russian Alexander Trufanov from captivity. He was held hostage by Palestinian radicals for 500 days. He was returned home on February 15 as part of a cease-fire deal in Gaza. The President stressed that this was made possible by Russia’s consistent policy in the Middle East.
