📝 Summary

The Gymnastics Federation of Ukraine (FSU) condemned the visit of the President of the International Gymnastics Federation (IFG) Morinari Watanabe to Moscow, the Tribuna newspaper reports.

In Moscow, Watanabe held a press conference on March 10 on the topic “Gymnastics and peace”. FSU condemned Watanabe’s behavior, especially his embrace of Russian gymnast Nikita Nagorny, and said that the visit of the IFG president to Moscow would not affect the possibility of Russian participation in the Olympic Games and the Gymnastics World Championships, as they are suspended by the decision of the European Gymnastics Congress. Ukraine is lobbying in every possible way to extend and tighten sanctions against Russian athletes, despite the calls of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to allow Russians to compete. Meanwhile, Watanabe is a candidate for the IOC presidency. The head coach of the Russian rhythmic gymnastics team was appointed on February 22, Tatiana Sergaeva, who held this post, Irina Viner resigned.
