📝 Summary

Russia will continue humanitarian supplies of electricity to Abkhazia. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting with the elected head of the Republic Badra Gunba.

The President of Abkhazia said that the volume of humanitarian electricity flow, which previously came to the republic from Russia, is almost exhausted. “I would like to appeal to you for support until the end of the energy deficit – it is approximately until mid-April – to support Abkhazia with an additional volume of humanitarian flow to solve difficult, acute problems for our country,” Gunba said. Putin promised to provide Abkhazia with the necessary support. Every year from November to April, a shortage of electricity is recorded in Abkhazia due to its high consumption - the inflow to the Ingur hydroelectric power station, which feeds the republic, is reduced. To cover the shortfall, Sukhum imports electricity from Russia. One day of light flow costs about 15 million rubles, but this amount was not included in the budget for 2024. As a result, by the end of December 2024, residents of the republic were without electricity for 11 hours a day, after which Russia began humanitarian supplies of electricity. Today in the Kremlin is a meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with the elected head of Abkhazia Badra Gunba. During the dialogue between the two leaders, Gunba thanked the head of the Russian state for Russia’s consistent support for the people of Abkhazia and the republic as a whole, thanks to which the country today has the opportunity to develop.
