The Moscow Philharmonic begins the third season of Musica Sacra Nova, dedicated to sacred music. The series of concerts, united by the theme “Back to the Avant-garde Forward”, was opened by the premiere of Alexei Sysoyev’s work “Requiem”. Territory of sadness”. He writes scores for unusual compositions of musicians or orchestras, choral and symphonic compositions, often with electronic sound, with equal interest. His "Requiem" is dedicated to Ekaterina Antonenko and the vocal ensemble INTRADA. Special attention is paid to work with space. The sound then falls into individual voices, then merges into a powerful harmonic canvas. Based on the canonical Latin text, the musical Requiem is built on contrasts: meditative episodes are replaced by sharp fragments, where the choir uses whispers and sounds (resembling techno rhythms), percussion and even (as instruments) indicators of electronic tension, which emit a characteristic high sound. Music is what we think we want to consider music, you know? So music can be anything. The main thing is to somehow skillfully fit this into the general context, shared composer Alexei Sysoev. Electronics can be heard only in the final part, but its influence is felt throughout the work. The part of the choir sounds like an electronic instrument, creating the illusion of a digital sound. The composer calls his experiments "a game in the fight against listening illusions." “This is a necessary quality of the composer – to deceive the listener, lead him by the nose and create illusions,” added Alexey Sysoev. “He is looking for some new techniques, but for a reason, a reception for the sake of reception. He's exonerated. It works. It is interesting, explained the artistic director and conductor of INTRADA vocal ensemble Ekaterina Antonenko. In the second part there are two large symphonic scores by Alemdar Karamanov and Nikolai Korndorf performed by the Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra. “They have more experience in performing various avant-garde works than many. Not all orchestras in such numbers and with such periodicity perform either modern music or music of the twentieth century, as does the youth orchestra, which participates in all subscriptions of the Moscow Philharmonic associated with such music. So it's not scary for them at all. And they're okay. It is absolutely familiar, and drive, and interesting, admitted conductor Fedor Beznosikov.
