"Sfumato": Yuri Cooper presented new works in Nizhny Novgorod

“A beautiful person has less and less chances,” says Yuri Cooper and tries to find beauty in the surroundings. His exhibition "Sfumato" opened in the cultural center "Pakgauz" in Nizhny Novgorod. More than 40 works created over the past two years are presented. Tatiana Kolpakova has the details. Sfumato is Italian for "soft, vague". This is how you can describe the main features of the author’s style of Yuri Cooper. The author appreciates the verboseness of picturesque images and mutes the sound of colors, works not with color, but with light. Particular attention is paid to textures and details. “The verb is to contemplate. When you look at something for a long time, which is sometimes not visible to anyone, noted the artist Yuri Cooper. So ordinary things take on new life – paintbrushes, an old armchair, a butterfly or a flower. “Considering the fly that crawls on the table. To convey this feeling of contemplation is my world, added Yuri Cooper. Like old black and white photographs, the artist’s work has the illusion of reality. He works in different techniques and in his paintings uses improvised materials. If you look closely, on top of this picture is glued real dried grass. The exhibition demonstrates the entire range of Cooper’s creative hypostases: painter, graphic artist, sculptor, designer and set designer. He is a production designer of the Theatre and Cinema Center under the direction of Nikita Mikhalkov. “I managed to get the viewer to delve into his paintings. We pass by some things he doesn’t pass by – stops, takes pictures, asks or buys and brings. And makes it a masterpiece. It is an amazing quality to see beauty in what others do not see, said the director, People’s Artist of the RSFSR Nikita Mikhalkov. The exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod presents more than 40 works of the artist.
