Following the heads of the EU countries, the Swiss authorities have expanded their own list of sanctions against Russia, adopting several restrictions approved earlier in the framework of the 16 package of restrictions, according to a statement on the website of the confederation government.
In Switzerland, as in the EU countries, from 22:00 (00:00 GMT) on March 4, the assets and real estate of 35 Russian companies and 48 individuals will be frozen. The latter will also be banned from entering and transiting Switzerland. “The individuals and legal entities against whom sanctions were imposed include, in particular, supporters of the Russian military complex,” the statement said. In addition, three banks will be banned from conducting transactions because they use an alternative SWIFT system – the Financial Message Transfer System of the Central Bank of Russia (SPFS). From March 17, 13 Russian financial institutions will be banned from providing specialized financial messaging services for payment transactions (SWIFT system). Swiss sanctions also hit 74 vessels from third countries, which are allegedly part of the “shadow fleet” of Russia. A further 53 trade organizations were subject to stricter export controls.
