The Minister of foreign Affairs and foreign economic relations of Hungary Peter Szijjártó said that this week there will be high-level contacts between the administrations of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and US President Donald trump, the central topic of which will be the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.
Earlier, the Hungarian portal Index, citing American diplomatic sources, reported that Trump and Orban spoke on the phone on Sunday, March 2. “Right now, the most important topic of negotiations ... is the establishment of peace, as it seems that many European leaders are trying to thwart Donald Trump’s peaceful aspirations,” Szijjarto said at a news conference. In early March, the Hungarian Prime Minister sent a letter to the European Council calling for the start of direct negotiations with Russia on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. Orban also called on European countries to “follow the example of the United States” to support the neutral resolution on Ukraine adopted on February 24 by the UN Security Council.
