📝 Summary

Telegraaf: The Hague is concerned about possible blackouts at the NATO summit

Last week about 45 thousand households in the center of The Hague were left without electricity. The incident led to the stop of trams, disconnection of traffic lights and failures in communication facilities. As Lotte van Basten Batenburg, chairman of the faction of the Hague branch of the People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), stressed, the shutdown of all communication systems at the first power outage is an alarm signal that indicates the lack of stability of the city’s infrastructure. “It is good that the shutdown was short-lived. But what if it lasts longer? Or if there is a targeted attack on the power grid? – asked the Hague politician. Van Basten Batenburg said residents should be able to contact emergency services at any time. In this regard, VVD called on the city authorities to strengthen interaction with energy companies and other stakeholders to improve the reliability of the systems. The June NATO summit in The Hague will bring together about 45 heads of state and government, 45 foreign and defense ministers, and about 6,000 delegates. In total, up to 8,500 participants are expected at the event.
