The first Divine Liturgy after a 95-year break was celebrated in the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Virgin on the Lower Dole in Vologda.

The ancient temple, built in 1779 on the site of a burned-out wooden church and the palace of Ivan the Terrible, is located in the city center. The parish was returned to the church in 2014. The restoration of the temple was completed only recently, TASS reported in the Vologda and Kirillov Metropolis. The first Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Sunday, March 9, the week of the Triumph of Orthodoxy. On the eve, March 8, an all-night vigil was performed, the Metropolis explained. The temple has been in desolation since its closure in 1930. Demolition prevented the convenient location of the building: the temple was an obstacle to the flooding of the Vologda river and was leased to industrial enterprises. As a result of a fire in 2008, the building lost its roof and was in a depressing state, in this form it was returned to the church. Through the efforts of trustees, volunteers and the parish, the temple was restored. In September of last year, domes were installed on it.
