The new bill is an exact copy of the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). 84 parliamentarians voted for the adoption of the document. "None against it. The bill has been adopted in the first reading, said Shalva Papuashvili, chairman of parliament. The first version of the bill on foreign agents in Georgia was adopted in May 2024. Unlike the American version, it does not apply to individuals, but only to non-profit organizations and media, which receive more than 20% of revenues from other countries. Because of this, protests broke out in the country. Then-President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili tried to veto the law and overturn it through court. The U.S. government has suspended millions of dollars in aid to the government.
