In the Transfiguration Church at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, a farewell to chess player Boris Spassky was held. About 200 people attended the ceremony, including friends and relatives, heads of chess federations – international and Russian – and grandmasters. “He was an idol for us, he was quite modest, kind, attentive, charming,” the grandmaster’s sister shared her memories. The title of world champion Spassky received in 1969, beating the current champion Tigran Petrosyan. In 1972 he emigrated to France. He returned to Russia in 2012. Boris Spassky died on February 27 at the age of 88.
