Three-time Olympic freestyle wrestling champion Buvaisar Saitiev has died at the age of 49. This was announced by the President of the Russian Wrestling Federation Mikhail Mamiashvili.

Saitiev won gold at the Olympic Games 1996, 2004 and 2008 in the weight category up to 74 kg. “I received a call ten minutes ago and was told that it was such a disaster,” Mamiashvili told TASS news agency. Saitiev finished his sports career in 2009. In 2016, he was elected to the State Duma, was a member of the Committee on Physical Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth Affairs.
