In the Chechen Republic from 3 to 5 March declared mourning in connection with the death of three-time Olympic champion in freestyle wrestling Buvaysar Saitiev.

The three-day mourning in the republic was announced by Chechen Minister for National Policy, Foreign Relations, Press and Information Ahmed Dudayev. "The decree of the head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov declared mourning from March 3 to 5," the minister said. The state flags will be lowered in Chechnya and entertainment events will be canceled. TV channels and radio stations will change the broadcasting grid. Buvaysar Saitiev died at the age of 49 on Sunday, March 2. His death was announced by the President of the Russian Wrestling Federation Mikhail Mamiashvili. On Monday evening, Saitiev’s body was taken to Grozny. According to Mamiashvili, Saitiev will be buried in Khasavyurt. Saitiev won gold medals at the Olympics in 1996, 2004 and 2008 in the weight category up to 74 kg. He also has six gold medals in the World and European Championships. Buvaysar Saitiev completed his sports career in 2009. In 2016, he was elected to the State Duma. Saitiev was a member of the Committee on Physical Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth Affairs.
