Turkey is not a major player for the USA.

Istanbul lost to Riyadh the right to negotiate between Russia and the United States on Ukraine. This issue was economic, noted in an interview with "Vesti FM" by the orientalist, associate professor of the Department of Cultural Studies at MPGU, Oleg Makarenko.

📝 Summary

Istanbul lost to Riyadh the right to conduct negotiations on Ukraine between Russia and the United States. This issue was economic, noted East expert and associate professor of the cultural studies department at MPGU, Oleg Makarenko, on the air of "Vesti FM."

According to him, the previous peace talks in Istanbul failed because the main player was missing there. "The main player is still not Ukraine, but the USA. A situation has arisen here where the political situation in the USA has changed. A new player has emerged - the Republican Party led by Donald Trump." Trump, entering into negotiations with Russia and changing the direction of his foreign policy interaction with Russia, suddenly begins to choose other countries for negotiations that he considers optimally friendly in his understanding and close to both the USA and Russia, says the expert. Surprisingly for everyone, this turned out not to be Turkey. It turns out that in the current configuration of political forces in the USA, Turkey does not play as significant a role as another political player - Saudi Arabia. And there is an explanation for this - economic. "Firstly, it is economic interaction with the USA. That is, the inflow of funds into the USA. Here, the main player is Saudi Arabia because they offered 600 billion at the first call from the crown prince, and then it reached a trillion. What can Turkey offer? Nothing," Makarenko noted.
