📝 Summary

The Supreme Court of the United States refused to satisfy the request of the administration of US President Donald Trump to suspend payments of almost two billion dollars to foreign partners under previously concluded contracts, the court said in published documents.

It is noted that the decision on this issue was made by members of the Supreme Court by five votes to four. “Can one district judge, probably without jurisdiction, dispose unlimitedly of two billion taxpayer dollars that are likely to be lost forever?” The answer should be a categorical no, Justice Samuel Alito said, noting that most Supreme Court justices "seem to think otherwise." Court President John Roberts and Judge Amy Coney Barrett supported the opinion of three liberal justices, refusing the Trump administration to grant the request. The White House has suspended payments to contractors and cut staff from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). US President Donald Trump called the decision to reform USAID irreversible. Later, a U.S. federal court temporarily blocked Trump's plan to recall USAID employees worldwide. The U.S. State Department and the agency failed to properly track how more than $30 billion in aid was spent last year.
