Wedding. Joint special project with the theater "New Opera" - 11 March 2025, 10:05

On June 14, 2024, the premiere of a new version of Stravinsky’s ballet “The Wedding” will take place. Russian choreographic scenes with singing and music. The performance is dedicated to the centenary of the first production (Paris, 1923). The score, which is significant for ballet art, will be supplemented here with the maximum number of details and hyperlinks – visual keys, the recognition of which will allow the viewer to expand the mental space of the performance. Pavel Glukhov’s “Wedding” moves decisively away from the concept of minimalism, connecting the choir and dancers in one space. The author acts as a choreographer-playwright and looks at Stravinsky’s score through the prism of “Thunderstorms” by A. N. Ostrovsky: saturates the plot with details, characters with characteristics, choreography with psychologicalism; embodies the abstract idea of ritual through a recognizable conflict of relationships between the groom and the bride, husband and wife, the older generation and the younger, personal relationships and ties with the family. The wedding ceremony here is not only glorified as conceived by the composer, but also overthrown, "trying on" a living person. Presenter: Anastasia Glukhova – theater critic and dance critic. ***
