Young Ivanovo scientists in the framework of the educational project "Slon" told about transparent oil, a variety of butterflies and reflective materials. On Wednesday, February 26, in the educational center "Solaris" in the city of Ivanovo traditionally gathered a full hall of science lovers of all ages. A student of the Department of Biology of IvSU Arkady Khvatov immersed the audience in the world of insects and told all about butterflies, including the purpose of the most inconspicuous of them - moths. IGHTU magistrate Fidan Abiyeva gave a lecture on transparent oil, showing its ubiquitous presence and surprising with examples. The representative of the student scientific community of IVSPU Sofia Chernogalova revealed the secrets of the cat’s eye and told how its structure inspired scientists to new inventions. The Elephant project is not only a form of exciting intellectual leisure for young people, but also a unique platform for the development of professional skills of young scientists. So, Fidan Abiyeva shared that she regularly attends the lectures of “Elephant” as a listener, and now tried herself as a lecturer to learn to talk about complex scientific developments in a simple and understandable form. I try to go to the Elephant lectures myself, I like to learn something new. In particular, the development of oratory skills for me is an important goal, she said. “The audience today was simply gorgeous. The flight of imagination of the guys amazed me to the depths of my soul, said Fidan Abiyeva. As a result of the lectures, the audience also shared their impressions. The students noted that the unique format developed at the Slon educational project allows to learn many new facts from various fields of science in a short period of time. “We were told interesting facts that we didn’t even know existed. Short lectures on various topics are a very interesting format. You can switch from one topic to another and immediately ask questions of interest, said Elina Bobrovskaya, a student of Ivanovo School No42. The Slon project was launched in May 2023 at the initiative of young scientists of the Ivanovo region and immediately gained popularity. The main goal of the project is to popularize science and tell a wide audience about complex things. It is based on a series of short lectures on scientific topics lasting from 15 to 60 minutes depending on the audience: from high school students and students to people interested in science, regardless of age. The scientific and educational project "SLON" in a short time reached the interregional level, and at the IV Congress of Young Scientists-2024 in Sirius was presented for the international scientific community of the BRICS countries. The new season of the educational project on January 21 was opened by a lecture by the famous Russian mathematician Alexei Savvateev, which became the most massive by the number of spectators. The lecture on the basics of science was presented by the editor-in-chief of the journal "Chemistry and Life", the author and host of the program "Scientific Approach" on Radio Russia Lyubov Strelnikova. Scientists with world fame gave lectures in Solaris and in the framework of the previous season of the educational project. Russian astronomer Vladimir Surdin spoke about the past, present and future of the exploration of the moon, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences Alexei Semikhatov made the premiere of the lecture on quantum physics. Biologist, head of educational projects of Genotek Dmitry Krivosheev told the audience about the development of life on earth, biologist Mikhail Nikitin - about the processes in a living cell, endocrinologist Roman Terushkin - about the health of the hormonal system, and Andrei Zhuravlev - about the discoveries of modern paleontology.
