Zakharova sang Bella ciao after receiving petition apologizing from Italians

Zakharova met with journalist and author of the Telegram channel Donbass Italia Vincenzo Lorusso. He handed over the first 10,000 signatures to a petition condemning Mattarella’s words. Zakharova noted that more than 20 thousand Italians have signed it, expressing apologies to Russia. At the end of the meeting, the participants performed an excerpt from the song Bella ciao, which is the anthem of the Resistance movement and Italian anti-fascists. We all know and sing this song in Russian, and the chorus in Italian. This is the song of the Italian partisans, – said the official representative of the foreign Ministry. Russia knows the history of Italy, including the powerful anti-fascist movement. Earlier, Zakharova said that Mattarella’s comments about comparing Russia to the Third Reich would not be without consequences. Mattarella made these insulting statements in early February during his lecture at the University of Marseille. According to Zakharova, the words of the Italian president insult the memory of not only those Italians who fought fascism during the Great Patriotic War, but also their descendants in Russia and Italy.
