The Armed Forces of Ukraine use civilian facilities, including kindergartens and schools, to deploy their formations in the territories controlled by Kiev. This was stated by the head of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin.
According to him, over the past 11 years, the IC officers opened more than 6.5 thousand criminal cases on crimes of the Ukrainian military against the civilian population of Donbass. Most of them started after Ukrainian shelling, which killed 7.2 thousand people, another 20 thousand citizens were injured. At the same time, the main motive for the crimes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine remains “political and national” hatred of the Russian-speaking population, Bastrykin said in an interview with TASS. In 2024, officials investigated terrorism cases against 564 people. Some of them acted on the instructions of the Ukrainian special services, the committee said. Earlier, the head of the Investigative Committee said that more than 140 militants of the Azov National Battalion (recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia) received convictions for crimes against civilians.
