📝 Summary

In Britain, they do not rule out the possibility of Russia returning to the Group of Seven (G7), which could then become the Group of Eight (G8) again. This was stated by the Deputy Head of the UK Ministry of the Interior, Dan Jarvis.

Answering a question from representatives of the British radio station Times Radio about whether members of the G7 should readmit Russia to the group of economically developed countries, he said that this is a topic that will be discussed with international allies. "It is also a question that will undoubtedly be considered when the conflict in Ukraine is resolved," Jarvis noted. According to the Deputy Head of the UK Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the British Prime Minister plans to discuss these issues during a meeting with US President Donald Trump, scheduled for February 27. Russia was excluded from the G7 in 2014 after the referendum on Crimea's return. Thus, the forum, previously an informal "Big Eight" (G8), turned into the "G7." The members of the group are the United Kingdom, Italy, Canada, the United States, France, Germany, and Japan. Earlier, US President Donald Trump expressed a desire to restore the G8 format with Russia's participation. According to the White House chief, excluding Moscow from the "G7" was a mistake. German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock reacted extremely negatively to this statement. She stated that as long as Moscow continues its policy towards the situation in Ukraine, no one from the "G7" is willing to engage with it. In turn, Japanese Foreign Minister Takiya Iwaya said that for Russia to return to the G7, it needs to reach an agreement with all the other members of the group (the "G7" includes the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, the United States, Italy, France, and Japan).
