It is especially dangerous for children and the elderly. It manifests itself in different ways: bacteria can live on the mucosa without causing disease, and can lead to blood infection, inflammation of the brain. The disease begins rapidly. “The acute onset: a sharp rise in temperature, a sharp paleness of the skin, there may be wild weakness, sometimes hemorrhagic rash immediately appears,” says Tatyana Komissarova, chief doctor of the Children’s City Clinical Hospital No. 3. Every tenth of the disease proceeds with complications. The infection takes away hearing, vision, some reach the amputation of the fingers. In severe cases, patients die. Every year in the Novosibirsk region sick dozens of people. “It is difficult to say how events will unfold, but over the past three years there has been a tendency to increase cases. According to Rospotrebnadzor, in 2023, 14-15 cases were registered, in 2024 - 30 cases, Tatyana Komissarova said. Currently, one small patient is being treated for meningococcus in a children's hospital. His illness spared, the child is recovering.
