From 1964 to 1972, Irina Rodnina performed in pairs figure skating with Alexei Ulanov under the leadership of Stanislav Zhuk. In this composition, the pair became several times the champion of the world, Europe, and also won the Olympic Games in Sapporo. “I remember how in 1972, when we parted with Lesha as a sports couple, I wrote letters to whole classes, he was condemned, because I was left in the eyes of our audience, my fans,” said Rodnina. But later, the athlete continued her career in a pair with Alexander Zaitsev, with whom she won many awards, including twice the gold of the Olympics. In 1973, at the World Championships in Bratislava, an incident occurred that went down in the history of figure skating. Because of the circuit in the radio room, the couple rolled out the program without music to the applause of the audience. “For many people, I probably got the impression that I am an absolutely iron man, impenetrable. But what was amazing for me in this film was that they tried to show me as an ordinary, normal person, Rodnina said. The basis for the film was the book of the athlete “Tear of the champion”. Rodnina will be available in theaters from March 6.
