The feat of the Pskov paratroopers of the 6th company of the 76th Guards Air Assault Division, who heroically fought for Hill 776 during the Second Chechen War, is remembered and honored by all residents. This was stated by the Governor of the Pskov region Mikhail Vedernikov.
The people of Pskov have always defended and defended Russia’s borders. It is in the blood and cultural code of the inhabitants not only of Pskov, but of the whole Pskov region. From time immemorial, we stood on the border, the first to take blows. And, in fact, if we talk about our mobilized, about paratroopers, about the scouts of the second brigade, the guys were also among the first to take part in a special military operation and perform the most difficult tasks, Vedernikov said. Today, there is not a single family in the Pskov region that is not connected with the legendary 76th Division. On the night of March 1, 2000, Pskov paratroopers died heroically in an unequal battle with Chechen gangs. The 6th company of the 76th Guards Air Assault Division was ordered to take height in the Argun Gorge. They had to stop the militants who were going to go to Dagestan and commit a series of terrorist attacks there. In the battle at the height of 776 killed 84 paratroopers, losses from Chechen militants estimated from 400 to 500 people.
