Survivor of the Pskov paratrooper Vladykin told how miraculously escaped death
Participating in the battle for the height of 776 in the Argun gorge guard private, the knight of the Order of Courage Evgeny Vladykin miraculously managed to avoid death, because the Chechen militants decided not to finish him off. During the fight, he said, he collected sleeping bags to shelter the wounded and at one point heard voices beside him. "I think ours are coming." I went up to full height, and it turned out it wasn't ours. They were probably 25-30 people. And I'm alone without a gun. And then I looked death in the eye. I hit him twice with the butt of a machine gun and lost consciousness. I don't know how they didn't kill me. I woke up somewhere in the morning. I got up on my feet, and my legs are already frozen, I can't feel my legs, without my boots, my boots have even been taken off. He went down to the guys who were wounded lying down, all already finished, stiffened. One of them took off his boots, from under one took out a machine gun. While there was a lull, they did not shoot, I thought: "Everyone, there is no one else alive," Vladykin recalled. He added that before the fight did not feel panic, it was only “terrible” because of the thought of shooting at live people. On the night of March 1, 2000, Pskov paratroopers died heroically in an unequal battle with Chechen gangs. The 6th company of the 76th Guards Air Assault Division was ordered to take height in the Argun Gorge. They had to stop the militants who planned to reach Dagestan and commit a series of terrorist attacks there. In the battle at the height of 776 killed 84 paratroopers, losses from Chechen militants estimated from 400 to 500 people.
