Green technologies for electricity are developed by Novosibirsk scientists

The catalyst allows to obtain energy from hydrogen-containing gas. On a special grid in a special way apply the thinnest layer of aluminum oxide and active metal nanoparticles. A reaction occurs and the hydrogen-containing gas in the fuel cell is converted into electricity. “The bulk of hydrogen and CO is used to convert the energy in the fuel cell. But part remains, and in order not to release it into the atmosphere, we use other types of catalysts – afterburners, which are aimed at burning the remaining hydrogen and CO to safe water and carbon dioxide and not releasing harmful gases into the atmosphere, explained Alexandra Kuznetsova, a laboratory assistant at the Institute of Catalysis of the SB RAS. With the help of a catalyst, natural gas, propane-butane mixtures, liquid hydrocarbons, gas condensates can be converted into energy. The idea of chemists was finalized by engineers, created a plant for processing gas into electricity. Mobile, convenient, autonomous, practical in service. Such catalysts are installed in mobile power plants that produce up to two kilowatts of energy. It is possible to build modular power plants. Such fuel is environmentally friendly and economically profitable. “The system operates at high temperatures. There is a well-thought-out algorithm of work. It is possible to put such a power plant that will not require additional maintenance for a year, that is, its autonomy will be determined by the fuel reserve with which it will be provided, said Pavel Snytnikov, head of the NTI Hydrogen Center, head of the department of the Institute of Catalysis of the SB RAS. Installations can work in different climatic zones. Six years have passed from idea to implementation. This is a short time, given that the technology was created from scratch. Together with the business, a pilot production of mini-generators was launched. The first samples have already been tested in harsh winter conditions.
