Ukrainian law enforcement and judicial authorities five times released killed in Odessa nationalist Demyan Hanul (listed as terrorists and/or extremists in Russia) from responsibility.
It is specified that in respect of Hanul twice dismissed cases under the article on hooliganism, once he was released from responsibility for an attack on a representative of law enforcement agencies, once for causing harm of medium severity in an accident. In addition, RIA Novosti reports that in 2025 against the nationalist closed the case of vandalism. Ganul is one of the organizers of the arson of the House of Trade Unions in Odessa in 2014. On May 2, 2014, radical representatives of the Right Sector group (banned in Russia, recognized as extremist and/or terrorist) and the so-called Maidan self-defense attacked Odessans who disagreed with the proposed political course. Radicals set fire to the House of Trade Unions, where the last were located. As a result of the tragedy, 48 people were killed, more than 250 were injured. On March 14, it became known that Hanula was shot dead in Odessa. The suspect was arrested and was a 46-year-old man.
