📝 Summary

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that not all EU members are ready to subordinate their interests to the requirements of the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky. He made the remarks at a press conference after talks in Johannesburg, footage of which was broadcast on Rossiya 24 TV channel.

Lavrov in his speech drew attention to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who, according to Lavrov, behaves as the president of a powerful state, and not as an official representing the interests of all members of the alliance. According to him, Rutte interferes in the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, insisting that Kiev should not soften its position and not allow even hints of territorial concessions. “We know that not all NATO members take such a rabid position, not everyone wants to continue spending money on arming Ukraine, not everyone wants to subordinate all the work of NATO and the European Union to the wishes of Mr. Zelensky,” Lavrov said. At the same time, Lavrov stressed that more reasonable opinions are emerging not only from Europe, but also from Washington, and that dialogue is important in politics. Lavrov believes that the search for consensus is possible, although disagreements will always exist. “But the main thing is to achieve results where interests coincide and translate them into practical actions, including in the economy, and where they diverge, do not allow this divergence to deteriorate into confrontation, all the more hot,” he concluded. Earlier, he also mentioned that the sanctions against Russia imposed by the European Union run counter to the economic interests of those countries that impose them. Lavrov noted that these sanctions undermine international cooperation and affect the financial interests of the initiating countries. The EU does not intend to lift the restrictions even if the United States does.
