📝 Summary

Not every European city of the XVIII century had such complex engineering systems, and today it is the oldest of the major pedestrian bridges of the capital.

The Rostokino aqueduct will be restored. The only one in Russia, today it is an object of cultural heritage of federal significance. And once was an important part of the first - Mytishchinsky - water supply, which served Muscovites until 1962. On how the unique structure will be preserved – Evgeny Krakow. “It looks light as a feather, and very durable” – this is how Catherine II described the Rostokinsky aqueduct when she examined it in 1785. And even though he justified this assessment, he still needs care from time to time. The aqueduct is now being restored. Work is scheduled to be completed in the third quarter of this year, before the onset of cold weather. “The wooden roof will be completely replaced as part of the renovation work. Currently, about half of the lost elements have been dismantled. In addition, the facade will be completely repaired, that is, the white-stone cladding, the lost stones will be completed, said Vyacheslav Karamnov, head of the production department of GBU "Gormost". This building is unique both for its era and to this day – not every European city of the XVIII century had such complex engineering systems, and today it is the oldest of the major pedestrian bridges of the capital. This has always been a feature of Moscow: Moscow has combined both ancient and old history, new history, and, of course, it is good that Moscow has wonderful objects of Soviet architecture, but it is important that the objects of the XVIII century continue to remain. Moreover, as for the XVIII century, we do not have so many of them, – said the first deputy head of the Department of cultural heritage of Moscow – chief archaeologist of Moscow Leonid Kondrashev. The aqueduct is the idea of the Catherine engineer Friedrich Bauer. It was supposed to be a salvation for the city in sanitation. Catherine became seriously concerned about this problem after the plague epidemic of 1771. The relief did not quite contribute to the fact that the water went to Moscow spontaneously, there were no pumps. And then the ancient Roman idea of aqueducts was resumed. In fact, this is a bridge on which people did not walk, but water was delivered, Leonid Kondrashev added. Construction was delayed, several generations of engineers worked on the aqueduct, the gallery was replaced with pipes. It was not until 1804 that he began to fully fulfill his task of delivering 300,000 buckets of spring water. It spent fabulous for those times money – more than a million rubles, for which the people called it the millionth bridge. Until the 60s of the last century, the aqueduct worked for its intended purpose, then it was made of a heating main, and now - a pedestrian path. “The uniqueness of him is that there were five of them and he was left alone. Muscovites are used to the fact that this is a point of attraction. Cultural heritage as a whole has a very important component: if we don’t have it, we won’t have a future, said Filipp Smirnov. The length of this aqueduct is 356 meters. For more than 150 years, it has performed the most important function - the transfer of clean water through Yauza to Moscow. And today it is primarily an impressive monument to a long past era.
