On February 26, 2025, the composer, pianist and teacher Leonid Viktorovich Matsuev, the father of the People’s Artist of Russia Denis Matsuev, died. About his death, the musician announced on his page in the social network. Leonid Matsuev devoted his life to music and pedagogy. In Irkutsk, he taught, composed music and staged performances at the Irkutsk Theatre School for more than 25 years, headed the musical part of the Irkutsk Academic Drama Theatre named after N. P. Okhlopkov. In 1991, he made the difficult decision to leave his successful career and move with his family to Moscow to give his son a better musical education. Denis Matsuev called his father’s departure “the most terrible day” of his life and stressed its exceptional impact on his fate. In the farewell post, the musician noted that his father not only raised him as a pianist, but also became the closest person, mentor and friend. “This is a parental feat of the highest standard,” Matsuev wrote.
